Donate Food.

Struggling to figure out a solution to food waste? Ready to have an impact on our communities?

Any business or organization — grocers, bakeries, farmer’s markets, food distributors, universities, caterers, event sites, even event hosts — can donate food. Your delicious donations have to be fresh and have been stored safely. You can donate at regular intervals or whenever is convenient for you.

Fill out the form below to begin. Once we receive your information, we will be in touch to plan your pickups.

For your tax purposes, Haven’s Harvest will send you a letter in the first months of the following calendar year with an accounting of your food donation by weight in the past year. There is a permanent  enhanced tax deduction for food donations given to nonprofit organizations.

  • 1. What types of food can I donate?

We accept a variety of food, including:

    • Fresh produce (fruits, vegetables).

    • Baked goods (bread, pastries, etc.).

    • Packaged and non-perishable items (canned goods, dry pasta, rice, etc.).

    • Prepared foods (as long as they are stored properly and meet safety guidelines).

    • Dairy products, eggs, and frozen items (must remain within the proper temperature range).

Note: We cannot accept food that has been tampered with, opened, or is visibly spoiled.

    2. Can I donate food past its expiration or “best by” date?

Yes! Many foods are safe to consume past their "best by" or "sell by" dates. We follow guidelines to determine what is safe to distribute. Feel free to ask us about specific items!

    3. What are the legal protections for food donors?

The Good Samaritan Food Donation Act provides liability protection to food donors who act in good faith when donating food to nonprofit organizations. This law protects you as long as the food is safe and properly handled.

    4. How do I ensure food safety before donation?

    • Store perishable items at appropriate temperatures (below 41°F for refrigerated items or frozen solid for frozen goods).

    • Ensure prepared foods are stored in clean, sealed containers.

    • Label donations with information like preparation dates, if applicable.

    • Keep food away from contaminants like chemicals or pests.

    5. Do you pick up food donations, or do I need to deliver them?

    We offer both options:

    • Pickup Service: We can schedule regular pickups or one-time donations depending on your needs.

    • Drop-off Locations: You can bring donations to our designated drop-off points during specific hours.

    6. How often can I donate?

You can donate as frequently as you’d like! Many of our donors provide daily, weekly, or event-based contributions. We’re happy to accommodate your schedule.

    7. Can I get a tax deduction for my donation?

Yes! Donated food is eligible for tax deductions under federal law. We will provide you with a receipt for your donation, which you can use when filing taxes.

    8. How is the food I donate distributed?

We work with local community organizations, shelters, daycares, clinics, senior centers, food pantries, and meal programs to distribute food quickly and efficiently. We prioritize getting fresh and prepared foods to those in need before spoilage occurs.

    9. Can I donate if my business generates large amounts of food waste?

Absolutely! We specialize in recovering surplus food from grocery stores, markets, restaurants, farms, and other businesses. We can help design a customized recovery plan to fit your operations.

    10. What happens if I donate prepared foods?

Prepared foods must meet safety standards, such as being cooked and stored at safe temperatures. Once donated, these items are distributed to community partners who can serve them promptly.

    11. Can I donate food from an event?

Yes, leftover food from catered events, weddings, or other gatherings is welcome, provided it meets safety standards. We recommend reaching out in advance to ensure smooth recovery logistics.

    12. Is there a minimum or maximum donation size?

There’s no minimum or maximum! Whether it’s a single box of produce or a truckload of surplus, we can handle it. For large donations, advanced notice helps us coordinate logistics.

    13. Can I get feedback on where my donations go?

Absolutely. We can provide updates, impact reports, or stories showing how your donations make a difference in the community.
